At what age should my child first visit the dentist?
./images/green.jpg
Pediatric Dentists and Pediatricians recommend that your child visit the dentist when the first tooth erupts or by the age of one. This visit usually consists of an examination and consultation by the dentist.

What is the youngest age a child can get cavities?
./images/red.jpg
As soon as the first tooth erupts into an infant's mouth, that tooth is susceptible to dental decay. If the conditions are right, decay can occur almost immediately. This is why proper brushing and diet are so important. A baby's teeth should be brushed well daily. If the sides of the teeth are touching together, the teeth should also be flossed. Juice and soda intake should be minimal, and sticky sweet snacks like fruit leathers and candy should be allowed only on special occasions.

When can my child brush her teeth on her own?
./images/brushes.jpg
Parents should brush their child's teeth until she is between 6 and 8 years old. Help with flossing should continue until she is 10-12 years old. Hint: Have your child lie on your lap to brush and floss. Use only a very small amount of toothpaste.

What is a pediatric dentist?
./images/dairy.jpg
A dentist who wishes to limit his practice to children can complete an additional two years of training (after dental school) to become a pediatric dentist. The training focuses on the different needs of children regarding not only their teeth, but also psychological and medical atmosphere and an extensive knowledge of treatment options available to children and teens is what draws most people to a pediatric dentist. Because Pediatric dentists understand the nature of children, they are also diligent about being available for after hour emergencies.

What are the normal times for baby teeth to come in and when are they lost?
./images/ladybug.jpg
The first baby tooth emerges when your baby is six months and the last molar comes in at age two. The first tooth is lost at age six on average, and the last baby tooth is lost at age twelve. These ages can vary significantly and still be considered normal.

What if my child has special needs?
./images/toothpaste.jpg
Often parents of children with special needs do not take their child to the dentist for fear that the child will be unable to cooperate. Pediatric dentists have special training in helping all children get through a dental examination and fillings too, if needed. A phone call to Dr. Babot or your local pediatric dentist can be the first step to alleviate your fears and answer your questions.

What are some healthy snacks for my child?
./images/tbrushes.jpg
Of course fruits and vegetables are the healthiest snacks for your child's body and teeth. Also think about goldfish crackers, dry cereal, sugarless gum and beef jerky. Remember, if it's sticky and sweet, it isn't good for your teeth.

Where can I go to get more information?

For general information, The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has an extensive list of FAQs available here.
If you have specific questions about your child's dental health, call Dr. Babot at 288-0522.

Why did I have to reschedule my child's appointment?
./images/apples.jpg
We make every effort to see your child at their scheduled appointment time. We understand that circumstances can cause people to be late for their appointments, and we will try to accomodate those situations as best we can. Sometimes, though, the best way to do this will be to reschedule the appointment for another day.

How do you pronounce `Babot`?
./images/carrot.jpg
The 'a' is short, like in 'tab'; the 'o' is long, like in 'go'; the 't' is silent. The accent is on the 'o', so it is pronounced "bab-OH"
